The role of Materials Scientist is concerned with the use of optical and electron microscopes to analyse irradiated fuel and associated irradiated materials using our nuclear laboratory on the Sellafield site. Working alongside skilled technicians and under guidance from Technical Leads, the post holder will be required to conduct analysis of samples in an active environment to the highest standards of safety, security and quality. Production of high-quality technical reports is a key requirement and the output will be utilised in the support of reactor safety cases for our customers. We are looking for an enthusiastic, talented Senior Safety Consultant who is experienced in the production of radiological safety assessments to join our team and helps us deliver some of the UKs most cutting-edge nuclear projects. NNL are at the forefront of nuclear research & development in the UK and beyond with a wide range of projects that require creative safety support. If you are able to show a track record of leading the technical delivery of projects, the ability to work as part of a team to deliver the right safety case for the project, and have the integrity to ensure that the outcome is safe and fit for purpose then a role in NNL might be right for you.
The team you will join is a dedicated, hard-working group who are passionate about the work they do. We support working flexibly, can accommodate homeworking and can be flexible about location, although some travel will be necessary, to support business needs.

Provide delivery and technical leadership to NNL laboratories and external customers, to enable the delivery of technical projects and ensure criticality safety in operations. The location for this role is flexible and can be based at Preston, Risley or Sellafield.
