Job Description

This role is for a Corrosion Scientist who will work on a number of corrosion science issues for customers such as Sellafield Ltd, NDA, Rolls-Royce and EdF Energy. Job Description

This role will support a varied portfolio of engineering tasks and projects in the Windscale Laboratory to ensure the facility continues to deliver for NNL’s internal and external customers.

The role holder will be part of a multidiscipline team and will be expected to support the delivery of new systems / components and support the delivery of solutions to engineering problems and issues encountered on the plant during normal operations, maintenance, and breakdown phases of facility plant operations. Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Technologist in NNL Measurement and Analysis (NNL M&A). This technical role will be responsible for technical delivery of laboratory and deployment work as well as to lead research and customer project work for the Instrumentation and In-situ Analysis (IIA) team. Training will include development to technical lead and task supervisor within the NNL facilities, as well as opportunities to attend plant for maintenance, commissioning, and deployment activities. 

The role will provide the ability to contribute to customer projects, working on several aspects to instrumentation development for the nuclear environment. The successful candidate should have a background in instrumentation (or similar) and have experience of working within a rig hall and/or laboratory-based environment. The position will primarily support projects and support plants to develop instruments to a deployable technical readiness level. Work will include identification of requirements, writing proposals for research and other customer work, experimental design, providing experimental data, data analysis, testing and underpinning evidence for instrumentation and processes, technical report writing, cross team communication, troubleshooting of instrumentation, and on-plant maintenance of bespoke instrumentation. 

In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on internally and externally funded research projects and have collaborations with academia. The position will provide opportunities to author high impact publications and to be actively involved in knowledge exchange with academia and the nuclear industry.

The Environmental Science team, within the Waste and Environmental Technology Capability are looking for an Environmental Scientist to join them to provide technical support to this growing area. You will work closely with Technical Leads and interact with a range of internal and external customers and collaborators. 

The role will provide you with the opportunity to work closely with leading experts within NNL and contribute to a wide range of key waste management programmes as well as wider environmental remediation activities both in the UK and internationally.

To join the NNL Post Doctorate programme you will have a PhD in a relevant STEM subject, for example, chemistry, geochemistry or environmental science. A proven ability to work in a radiation controlled and/or contaminated site environment would be advantageous.
