Job Description

Working with the Capability Manager, the Deputy Delivery Manager - Technical will:

Support delivery of the agreed plan for Fuel PIE operations in the Windscale Laboratory. Support Delivery of technical work outside of core contracts, e.g. USDoE, AWE, RR, University of Lancaster, etc. Conduct Stakeholder engagement to a wide variety of stakeholders from a number of different customer workstreams, ensuring a seamless transition from inception to delivery. Originate various technical work packs, utilising internal stakeholder management, guaranteeing all work is carried out safely, effectively and to standard. Plan and deliver improvement activities, working with operators and wider stakeholders to create tangible benefits to the business, our people, and our customers. Ensure delivery is compliant with all relevant EHSS&Q requirements. Where appropriate, train, supervise and coordinate a small technical team undertaking PIE operations, with a focus on their safety, output and development.

Authorities:

The Deputy Delivery Manager’s role is to support the Capability Manager to deliver the “out-of-the ordinary” technical work scope activities.

The Deputy Delivery Manager will be the initial internal Point Of Contact (POC) for all technical customer work from a variety of customers, as highlighted in this vacancy.

Job Description

NNL are pleased to provide a vacancy for a Chemist to support the Effluent, Environmental and Decontamination Chemistry team in the provision of nuclear decommissioning and environmental clean-up services with an emphasis on nuclear decontamination. 

We are looking for a high calibre candidate with extensive practical laboratory experience in a research environment who is motivated, has a proactive approach and solution orientated mindset, to carry out research. You will work closely with Technical Leads to deliver projects and advance technologies through the Technology Readiness Levels (TRLS) by providing experimental data, testing and underpinning evidence for processes and techniques yet to be implemented on nuclear plants. You will be required to interact with a range of internal and external customers and collaborators, interpret research requirements, design and implement experimental work and communicate results to stakeholders. This role will allow you to contribute to a wide range of nationally important decommissioning programmes as well as wider decontamination and remediation activities both in the UK and internationally. Examples of projects include the development and scale up of chemical and electrochemical techniques for the treatment of contaminated materials and other waste streams on legacy sites and formulating and understanding practical methods for clean-up following CBRN events. 

You will also have the opportunity to work on internally funded research which aims to develop a deeper understanding of contaminated materials and their environments. This will include engaging with European research partners on the EURAD programme, authoring high impact publications, supervising PhD students and being actively involved in knowledge exchange with the nuclear industry. You will also be able to support UKRI applications and put forward ideas for funding through NNLs innovation funding scheme. 

In addition to research, you will also support the setup of our newly refurbished decontamination laboratory and work with colleagues to develop and implement systems and procedures to ensure the successful and safe delivery of experimental programmes. You will also provide mentorship and encourage the development of skills and knowledge of junior colleagues.

The role is based at our Preston Facility, but the successful candidate may be required to travel to other NNL sites and collaborators facilities, both nationally and internationally. No previous nuclear experience is necessary and all training to allow you to work in a radioactive laboratory environment will be provided.

Job Description

The Senior Technical Support Officer will maintain NNL's accountancy and control arrangements in support of NNL project delivery at the Windscale Laboratory and in accordance with legislation and site licence conditions.

Emphasis is on the smooth delivery of the nuclear material accountancy system in support of day-to-day operations and the key receipts and dispatches of material, with the aim of a successful annual verification by the regulatory authority.

Job Description

The Security Operations Manager is responsible to the Head of Security Operations for one of two areas: 

Role 1 - Security Operations: Working with the NNL Managed Security Operations Centre (MSOC) to prevent and detect breaches; and respond to and recover from information security incidents. The scope of this role includes maintaining NNL’s incident response plans.   Role 2 - Testing, Exercising and Assurance: Managing the testing of personnel behaviours, business processes and information systems (including project/IT assurance) to maintain information security risks within acceptable limits. NNL is looking for a high calibre, motivated and experienced individual to be part of the Separation Science and Special Nuclear Materials (SS&SNM) management team which has team members based at NNL’s Central Laboratory. The team is part of the Fuels, Reactors and Recycling (FR&R) capability within NNL, which delivers commercial R&D to help solve a wide range of challenges in the nuclear industry.

The SS&SNM team have a unique expertise and provide the key skills required to support the UK’s future nuclear programmes as well as playing an important role in several European collaborations. The team specialise in laboratory-scale, medium inventory experiments in reprocessing, isotopic separation, and Pu Science.

The overall size of the SS&SNM team is expected to grow in the coming years and this will increase the numbers of technical and operational staff. There is therefore a need to increase the number of personnel with the authority and accountability for management of experimental laboratory operations in this area.

NNL is looking for an experienced scientist with an aptitude and enthusiasm for management and a willingness to learn a new skill-set to join a growing team and deliver an exciting programme of work for our customers. The successful candidate will support the SS&SNM capability manager with line management activities including managing performance and development and supporting delivery of technical work in NNL’s Central Laboratory.

Job Description

Primary focus will be to support resolution of emerging plant issues that require Engineering Design input at NNL’s Central Laboratory. This may involve a wide range of stakeholders and issues, from design substantiation, safety case modifications, plant breakdowns / failures, commissioning support etc.

The Senior Engineer role will be working as part of a small team of Design Engineers (Mechanical, CE&I, Process) to manage the resolution of these emerging issues from a design perspective.

To undertake the delivery of engineering design packages to the required time, cost and quality under direction of Principal Engineer or Senior Engineers dependant on design delivery team structure.  To provide skilled engineering support in his/her discipline.  May supervise a small number of more junior engineers and/or drafting resources.
