Job Description

We are currently recruiting for two Quantity Surveyor roles, who will be predominantly client facing, managing R&D contracts within areas as diverse as Space, Clean Energy, Health & Nuclear Medicine, Defence, Generation and New Build. These roles will provide expert support to Account Management and Project teams, and will deliver robust commercial practices to ensure business objectives and alignment are met.

The location for this role is flexible and can be based at Risley or Workington.

Main responsibilities

Main Responsibilities for Quantity Surveyor & Intermediate Quantity Surveyor:

  • Preparation of the required commercial support to assigned projects from inception through to completion.
  • Negotiating contracts and work schedules through change control.
  • Supporting the preparation of feasibility studies to ensure proposals are fully compliant and robust.
  • Assisting in the preparation of pre-contract documents, including support to pricing.
  • Supporting the estimating of material quantities, costs, labour and time, etc.
  • Performing risk and value management, and cost reconciliation on weekly & monthly cycle.
  • Leading cost analysis exercises against defined scopes of work.
  • Liaising with Procurement on the preparation of sub contracts terms.
  • Value completed work and arranging AfP’s through to submission.
  • Leading contractual claims and disputes.
  • Ensuring projects meet statutory and quality management standards.
  • Leading / supporting process improvement activities and business change projects as agreed with the QS Manager / Head of Commercial.
  • Developing close relationships with clients.
  • Developing close relationships with NNL project team(s).

Ideal candidate

Essential Criteria for Quantity Surveyor & Intermediate Quantity Surveyor:

  • Ideally HND / Degree qualified or professional qualification in Quantity Surveying.
  • Track record of successfully securing and managing complex, strategic, high value / risk commercial contracts, including NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
  • Successful track record of building internal / external relationships and ability to manage stakeholders effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – confidence, drive, challenge, influencing skills, communications.
  • Commercially astute with an understanding of the operations which impact a business and how risk is managed optimally for the sometimes opposing needs of the Business and Customers.
  • Experienced working to demanding deadlines.
  • Strong strategic thinking and leadership skills.
  • Understanding of, and ability to critically appraise, estimates, AFP and programmes.
  • Demonstrable experience within a Quantity Surveyor role.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years’ worth of UK residency).

Desirable Criteria for Quantity Surveyor & Intermediate Quantity Surveyor:

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or Similar.
  • Attained or working towards RICS accreditation.
  • Demonstrable experience within the nuclear industry.
